Lori Capra has been practicing yoga for over four decades. At the age of 20, she trained to become a carpenter and went on to run construction companies for 30 years on both the east and west coasts. She began teaching floor yoga and yoga on stand up paddleboards in 2009. “Even with a regular floor yoga practice I felt imbalances in my body structure,” Lori explains. She began to experiment with inversions by hanging upside down on pull up bars. That’s when she came upon the YogaBody trapeze. “I noticed amazing effects as soon as I started using it,” Lori says. “The traction, support for stretching, and movements for strengthening the core were accessible as well as endless.” In 2015, she attended the first-ever YogaBody trapeze teacher training. She studied with 25 other yoga teachers from around the world. As soon as she returned she hung trapezes in the studio where she was already teaching floor yoga. Her students immediately noticed amazing benefits themselves, and it was clear that once they began to spread the word she’d need to make this form of yoga a primary focus. By September 2017, Lori found a home for Gravity Yoga, the first studio dedicated to the yoga trapeze in the South Sound. A welcoming community of practitioners grew and thrived in the downtown Olympia space until March 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic forced its closure. Ever adaptable, Lori found ways to hang 23 trapezes at her home on Eighth Avenue in Olympia, including 12 in her backyard Yoga Garden, Now Lori is holding classes and private sessions at her home studio as well as at a couple other venues; currently she offers weekly classes at Fusion in downtown Olympia & monthly sessions at Athena Wellness Spa and Gym. Through all the twists and turns of Lori’s life journey, she has found her truest calling. “This is an empowering activity,” Lori says. “There are all kinds of boundaries that can be conquered, physical as well as emotional and mental.” She can’t wait to help you strengthen and stretch your body and mind in the yoga trapeze! Lori enjoys donating gifts in kind to some of our local nonprofits. If you or your organization would enjoy a donation to contribute to an auction or have a non profit group who would enjoy some team building, please email with a request and Lori will be happy to consider your needs.
